Kitchen Disaster!

Imagine getting a brand new kitchen. A beautiful and expensive kitchen (at least for your budjet). Those doors, cabinets and kitchen appliances you'll be looking many years after... Then the disaster happens, when the kitchen arrives and the work begins, just about everything goes wrong...

This is what has happened with my brothers new kitchen. Here are only few examples.

My brother ordered a cooking hood cupboard with a door because he didn't want the hood to stand out from the kitchen. (The kitchen opens to livingroom and the whole livingroom/kitchen space is small).

This is what he ordered, this is how the cupboard with cooking hood should look when you open the door...

This is how the cupboard looks now in my brothers kitchen... Can you see the similarity because we can't... There are bits and pieces missing and there is a huge hole on top of it that shouldn't even exist.

And what about the kitchen sink then? Well... the sink is wrong, of course, and it takes more than five weeks to get a new one. My brother ordered a sink with a faucet hole in it but now there's a sink with a hole on the counter, 1+1=wrong sink. How on earth my brother can get water out of this tap when there is now way to open it. Well, I think the photo will speak to itself.

Make a wild guess what are my brothers feelings and thoughts right now!!! I think my feelings and thoughts are quite alike...

Sorry, about the bad quality of the photos ;)

Oh my. And yet, not surprised at all. I've always wondered how one branch of services and industry can be so unreliable. How can they do their job with such attitude!? Nothing really matters, how it's done, what it looks like, when it's done, if it's done...

I've been through two apartment renovations (fairly complete) and one thorough plumming renovation. I managed to get a very good supplier for my first kitchen renovation, so I relied on them on this latest as well, didn't even ask for offers from others. But even they managed to mess up: the sink was wrong and the colour of the countertops as well. I ordered graphite gray and they delivered pidgeon blue... So only about 4 weeks delay...

But the plumming was a nightmare, as it was done for the whole 100 years old building. It took 4 months (for my apartment, little over a year for the whole building) and I nearly went nuts in the end when they started putting things together. Everything was crooked, wrong colour, wrong material, missing, the holes looked like a squirrel chewed them...

I would love to say NEVER AGAIN, but see me in 2 years and I'll start thinking about selling this and starting a new project...

Oh my goodness! 8c[
I take it your brother ordered the kitchen to be installed, aswell? I just cannot understand how the carpenters cannot stop and take a look at the order forms and drawings whenever they see something doesn't work.

I guess the cooking hood cupboard was meant for a hood and an exit vent that goes straight through the cabinet, not behind a fake back wall? And the faucet + sink + tabletop is a drama... dear my, how could they screw it up like that?

And thanks A LOT for the scare - we begin with the same task next Friday!

oh, please tell me who manufactured and installed the kitchen!

Anna, I didn't mean to scare you! I keep my fingers crossed that everything will go painless with your kitchen project.

Actually my brother didn't order the kitchen to be installed because there really wasn't much to do, the kitchen is so tiny. We figured that there's no reason to pay extra when our big brother can do the work. Two of the cupboards are installed by our brother and the work was made well. Cupboards stay and will stay on the wall! But the other two, including the cabinet with cooking hood, was installed by the carpenter who brought the countertops yesterday. My brother asked him to install those two cabinets as an compensation of all the delays. But what about the work he made... Those two cabinets are so wobbly installed!!

Tiny kitchen and still so many problems! Unbelievable!! And the biggest problem is the attitude that the firm has. Nothing really matters to them. My brother has asked them to come and look at the kitchen but NO... They don't care!! Even the guy who made the design and took the measures couldn't care less...

Anna, the manufacturer is surprise, surprise the one your friend warned you about... K-V-I-K!!!

Oh dear. That sounds exactly like the warning examples my friend told us! That selling and in-shop service is excellent, but reclamations and other, later services, are impossible to get. I sincerely hope your brother gets it all sorted out - and soon.
